GM frens,

Well – it’s Monday. I’m in the rare minority of people who like Mondays but I don’t work for anyone else – or have to go to a job where I don’t like people, so that helps. I feel for you if that isn’t the case for you.

I’m going to be heading to South by Southwest for a few days next week. I’m pretty excited about it, I’ve always wanted to go to Austin and I’m looking forward to meeting some of the friends I’ve made in the NFT space over the past year while I’m there. I’ve met a few people in Hawai’i but with the pandemic and us being in the middle of the Pacific – there hasn’t been a huge opportunity to gather.

In the world – the atrocious war in Ukraine continues. It’s heartbreaking and a stark reminded that things can change in an instant. Two weeks ago, it was a modern Western democracy living a peaceful life and recovering from the Covid times, now, it’s a pure hell. My heart goes out to everyone there and hopefully some resolution will come soon.

The war in Ukraine is already having ripple effects – oil and wheat are skyrocketing. Inflation is real and not a joke. I hate to sound like a boomer, but I’m thinking of stocking up on some staple commodities that won’t expire or go bad – because it’s very likely that prices could double or worse. Thankfully, I think the rumors of China getting involved are ridiculous – China has a multi-generation plan that they won’t risk over Putin’s dangerous gambit. If anything, I think we can expect China to remain uninvolved and focused on how this situation can benefit them.

In terms of NFTs – there is a lot of pain in the markets right now. My advice is to buy to collect, not to flip. Buy things you like in communities you want to be involved in with money that you can afford to lose. I’m minting a few free things and taking free drops but avoiding buying anything right now outside of the ecosystems I truly believe in. If the $APE coin or Coinbase NFT marketplace happen, we may see a little bump – but I think in general, you should count on prices going down more before they start to recover.

That being said – I still think Web3 and NFTs are a fundamental change in almost everything – but the projects that make that happen are going to be in the dozens, not in the hundreds or thousands. You can see my bag of chips to see the ones I most believe in.

Podcast Corner

Treat yourself to this on-point podcast for NFT authors from Joanna Penn of The Creative Penn.

One of many interesting topics raised was on the issue of copyright assignment in legacy publishing contracts. Might they be interpreted to include NFT books? Might they prevent authors from accessing their NFT book publishing rights? Will they change the way authors and their agents approach the negotiation process with publishers?

Let us know what you think on the Cryptoversal Discord server and Facebook group.

March Holidays

The March full moon is the ‘Sugar Moon’ on this day (March 17th in Hawaii) we share sweet treats with kids and the people we love and also – take the day off work if you can. Enjoy yourself. March 14th is world Pi Day. On this day we celebrate math and eat pie. Sharing pie with math lovers is a very Bald Jesus thing to do. If you are baking pies, cut the pi symbol in the top of your pie! The big one for March though is Garden Day aka Spring Equinox – Generally around March 21st. Do some gardening, get outside, feel the soil under your bare feet. Review your goals and aspirations for the year. Meditate on happiness. Gather with friends.

Cult Daohttps://app.cultdao.io/  | Manifesto

These are projects that I wanted to believe in that simply seem like they are dead. I bought into many of these instead of the winning projects above. Take that as a warning. I sincerely hope that they resurrect – but when I put them here, it means that I’ve stopped believing and looking. I hope to someday have a section at the top called ‘Resurrections’ for when projects in the Graveyard manage to rise up again. As time goes on, I have no doubt this will be the biggest section of this newsletter and I will let it keep growing so that those who care to look can understand that the majority of projects fail and investors lose money. Pick wisely, my friends, and good luck!
