It occurred to me recently that we here in Hawaii have a unique situation in that not only do we live in paradise, but we are also a small enough state and population that we have a real opportunity to become a blockchain leader. The only thing holding us back is a lack of organization and the fact that we have a balkanization of the various blockchain communities. Bitcoiners, Ethereum maxi folks, NFT people and projects, defi folks, people working on DAOs or non-profits, and all the other things that comprise blockchain. So I started reaching out to the various groups and it turns out people are thirsty to connect and excited to build together. I created the Blockchain in Paradise discord server and turned it over to the community. We had our first meet-ups and they were a blast! Moving forward we will be doing a lot more – watch this space!!! ~CD

Last Weeks Events:
It was a blast meeting so many members of our blockchain ohana last week at our first IRL meetups. Our first event had more than twenty, maybe as many as thirty people show up over the course of the evening. Friendships were made and connects were established. Good times had by all.
Our second meetup on Monday was also a huge success with a smaller crowd but some great conversations and information shared. These events are informal get togethers and we decided to make the Friday 6pm at Kaka’ako Whole Foods a weekly repeating event – so see you there tonight at the outdoor tables!

Sean and Aliko have created a safe space for new or experienced crypto people to connect. The Aloha Frens idscord community is a great place to learn about blockchain. Watase.eth is going to great lengths to give the community education in all aspects of NFTs and more. Highly recommended. You can grab one of the Aloha Frens NFTs for around .01 on OpenSea which will give you full access to the community.

Crypto & Token Projects:
Hawaii Coin – https://www.hawaii-crypto.com I bought some of these. It’s actually one of the oldest crypto projects out there (not just in Hawaii) and has seen little peaks of interest over the years where it looks like it might revive, but so far, nope.
Aloha Coin – http://hawaii-nation.org/alohacoin.html I helped to write the White Paper for this back in 2017, but the project just seemed to drop of the radar, devs stopped responding, etc. It still sits right where it was.

Exchanges & Bitcoin ATMs:
I’m not going to reinvent the wheel here: How To Crypto Hawaii has an excellent and up to date page that lists the exchanges that can be used in Hawaii, the pros and cons, and more.
